Nor-Gwyn Pool 2020 Season Status Update as of July 16th

Weekday Swim Session Passes Are Now Available for Local Residents!

Because Nor-Gwyn Pool has yet to reach its COVID-19-mandated attendance limits, we are able to offer weekday (Mon. – Fri.) Swim Session Passes to residents of North Wales, Upper Gwynedd, and West Point (specifically: ZIP codes 19454, 19446 and 19486).  This is a great opportunity for non-members to enjoy some time at the pool!

Based on availability, residents in those local ZIP codes can purchase single-use Session Passes for weekday Morning or Afternoon General swim sessions or our Evening Family Swim sessions on Thursdays and Fridays.  See the schedule below.  Unfortunately, Residents’ Passes are not available for the Morning Fitness Swim/Walk sessions.

Residents’ Passes (session wristbands) will be sold at our front booth for $5 per person, per session.  Residents’ Passes will be made available only at the session start time and only for that session; there will be no pre-selling of these passes at 9am.

A valid driver’s license or other proof of residency is required at the time of purchase; passes may not be used by non-residents or for residents’ out-of-area guests.  Residents must be 18 years or older but may bring children under 18.

The number of Residents’ Passes will be limited (or expanded) based on attendance levels, up to our mandated COVID-19 levels.  Those looking to purchase Residents’ Passes should call the pool at 215-699-5111 to check for availability.  To save time when entering the pool, please print and complete our Nor-Gwyn Pool Participation Waiver and bring it with you to the front booth.

Patron Update 6/21/2020

Dear Nor-Gwyn Pool Patrons,

The Nor-Gwyn Pool Commission is happy to announce that we will open on July 1st (weather permitting) for a shortened and different-looking summer season this year.  As you can imagine, the opening of the pool (and baby pool) has been significantly complicated by local and national COVID-19 guidance to which we must adhere.  But we are confident that with your understanding and patience, we can still have a great time at the pool for the remainder of the summer.

The “re-opening” plan outlined below strives to strike the right balance between patron/staff safety and providing the best summer experience possible for all of us.  This plan is not perfect, but it’s not written in stone either.  We will constantly look for ways to make things more accommodating, and we welcome your constructive feedback and suggestions as we move forward.

All patrons can support our efforts in two ways.  First, by accepting and promoting personal responsibility for things like social distancing and diligent personal care (hand washing, staying home if you are ill, and wearing of masks when not in the water).  Second, by bearing with us and recognizing that the process we are putting into place is new to all of us and that the Commissioners, Managers, and Staff will be in “learning mode” for the next few weeks at least.  We strongly believe that by working together, we can have a successful, if shortened, summer season.

There is a lot of information below, but please read it in its entirety.  Being prepared and knowledgeable about our changes for 2020 will greatly improve your time at the pool.

Step 1: Re-Enroll as a Member for 2020

By now, everyone who has registered and paid for the original 2020 season has been refunded their membership fee.  If not, please send an email to registration@norgwynpool.com and we’ll look into the issue.  To be a member this year, you must have been a member within the past three years and EVERY HOUSEHOLD must also re-enroll via our website www.norgwynpool.comNo guests will be permitted this season.

Re-enrollment is required to activate your id card (same one as last year) and to confirm that you have read and accept our new COVID-19 Waiver of Liability.  You will be prompted to accept the waiver.  Here’s the process:

  1. Sign on to norgwynpool.com and click on the Member Login button.
  2. Enter your Login ID and Password. If you don’t remember your ID or password, please send an email to registration@norgwynpool.com.
  3. Upon login, please check the box to indicate that you have read and agree to the Registration Waiver. Click Continue.
  4. At the top of the page, select My Account and then My Profile. Confirm you have all your family members listed correctly.  If you believe your children have not had their picture updated within the past the three years, please send a “head shot” to ngpoolphotos@gmail.com at least 24 hours before you visit the pool.

Step 2: Read and Understand the Rest of this Document

There’s a lot here, but it’s important.  Please remember that our hours, attendance limits, etc. are all subject to change as we gain more experience with our new schedule and processes.

New Hours of Operation

COVID-19 cleaning requirements do not allow us to maintain the same schedule as in the past, so we have set up four daily swimming sessions: two for lap swimming and Senior walkers, and two General Swim sessions.  Social distancing requirements further dictate that we limit attendance to 300 persons for the general sessions and 40 folks for lap swimming/walking.  (24 lap swimmers 14 years old and up, and 16 Senior walkers).

10:00am – 11:00am     Morning Fitness Swim & Senior Walkers

11:30am – 2:30pm       Morning General Swim

3:00pm – 6:00pm         Afternoon General Swim

6:30pm – 7:30pm         Evening Fitness Swim & Senior Walkers

The 30-minute interval between sessions is for enhanced cleaning of common spaces and high-touch surfaces.  All patrons must leave the premises with all personal items (including chairs) at the end of their session time, even if they plan to attend the next session.

Inclement Weather

Because of our limited session times, the pool will not open during inclement weather.  If the weather becomes inclement during a session (think thunder), the pool will be evacuated, and the facility will close for the rest of that session.  A notice will be posted on Facebook and the website when we know in advance of a closure.

No refunds will be provided in the event of any closure.

Cost / Payment Process

Access to the pool and grounds will be controlled using session-specific wristbands and are for members only; no guests are allowed this year.  Wristbands are sold at the front window on a first come, first served basis.  The cost for a wristband is $5 for all persons over 1 year old (as of July 1).  We will accept cash or checks only, and no refunds will be provided if the band is not used, or if the pool closes for any reason.  Wristbands are not transferable to non-members, nor can they be reused or exchanged for use on another day.

It is important to note that social distancing rules limit our front booth staff to two.  This unavoidable restriction WILL LIKELY CAUSE DELAYS.  Pre-buying of wristbands will help speed everyone’s entry onto the pool grounds.

Pre-Purchase of Session Wristbands

Patrons may purchase wrist bands beginning at 9:00am for any swim session that day.  Patrons are strongly encouraged to pre-buy wristbands prior to their session start time.  Those with wristbands will be allowed access ahead of those still needing to purchase their wristbands.  You may purchase wristbands for up to two sessions that day, no bands will be sold for future days.

Should you pre-buy a wristband and then not attend your designated session for any reason (e.g.: weather, unexpected closing, etc.), you will not be able to get a refund or exchange your band for another session.

No one under the age of 14 will be allowed in the facility without a responsible person over the age of 16.

New One-Way Entry / Exit Process

Appropriate social distancing is difficult in our entrance hallway and would be impossible if we allowed two-way foot traffic. Therefore, we are restricting our front booth gate and hallway to “entrance only” and requiring everyone to exit the pool grounds using the driveway gate.

After buying your session wristband, you must still scan-in at the inside window.  Members with pre-purchased wristbands may bypass the front window and move straight to the queue at the Fast Pass window to present their Pool ID card.  Every person entering the facility must have their membership card and have it scanned for each session that they attend.  If you cannot locate your card from a previous season, then you must purchase a new card for $5.  Please email, registration@norgwynpool.com so a new card can be created prior to your first visit.  Given our short session times, if you arrive at the pool without your card, you will have to wait until everyone else has entered for that session to purchase a new card or to be looked up in the system.  There is a $2/family charge for lookups.

To enable social distancing through that area, the entrance gate will be closed after all patrons have entered for their session.  Please make sure that you bring everything, including food, with you when you enter.  Exiting and reentering the pool facility via the entrance tunnel will be very limited.

As always, NO GLASS items are permitted; you may be asked to have your bag checked.

Bathrooms/Shower Facility

Bathrooms will be available throughout the day but will close ten minutes prior to the end of each session to facilitate cleaning and disinfecting.  Restroom closures will be announced ahead of time.   To maintain social distancing in smaller spaces, bathroom usage will be regulated and limited to 3 women/2 men at a time.  The shower and changing room areas will be closed for the season.  Additionally, the bathrooms will not be available during the last 15 minutes of the Evening Fitness Swim/Senior Walking session to allow for an end of day deep cleaning.  The municipal restrooms next to the pool complex are still open and available.

Drinking fountain will be off, but the bottle filler will be available; please bring your own non-glass bottle.

COVID-19 Transmission Reduction Efforts

We take our responsibility to ensure the safety of our patrons and staff very seriously.   Below are some of the steps we have taken to reduce the chance of viral transmission.  More importantly, it is up to ALL of us to act in a manner that respects the personal space and wellbeing of others, especially in group situations like at the pool.

  • The Pool Manager, Beth, has been designated as our COVID-19 point person. Any questions or issues related to viral mitigation should be brought to her attention.
  • All lifeguards, staff, and managers have received COVID-19 specific guidance, including related rescue and resuscitation procedures.
    • Hand sanitizer stations have been added throughout the facility for staff and patron use.
  • Patrons must wear face covering when entering the pool complex, on the pool deck, in restrooms, and when exiting. Masks must not be used while in the water.  Face coverings must be worn by staff except lifeguards on duty.
  • Parents are expected to monitor and maintain social distancing and other COVID-19 guidelines for their children. No one under the age of 14 will be allowing in the facility without a responsible person over the age of 16.
    • A parent/responsible person must stay with their child(ren) when they are in the baby pool to actively control their child’s social distancing.
  • Floor markings showing 6 foot spacing have been added where appropriate.
  • One-way travel patterns will be in place at entrance and exit points.
  • Limited access to certain areas like the front booth, hallway, office, and restrooms.
  • No slide, WIBIT, or booth toys will be available. The gaga and volleyball courts will be closed.
  • All pool chairs have been removed; patrons must bring their own. No picnic tables may be used.
  • “Lost & Found” services will not be provided
    • Items left after each session will be discarded (except for items of high value)

The Last Word

The Nor-Gwyn Pool Commission and Management Team have spent countless hours preparing the pool and facility for the season.  Sooo much work was done over the winter!  Look up and you’ll notice the new light poles and upgraded lighting, look down and you’ll see new concrete and deck drains.  Look around and you’ll see a staff that’s focused on making your time at the pool the best it can be.  It’s been a tough couple of months for everyone; take the time to relax a bit with friends at the pool but please also take a minute to thank the pool staff for doing all the extra work required to keep us safe and allow us to open this summer.
